The UNITED States of America is Just That

When you think about the United States of America right now, you think of the negatives that our country faces daily, that has become unfortunately our society in 2017. By 2017, we predicted cars flying, robots serving our needs and wants, computers crunching all of our numbers, but that hasn't happen and is no where in our future, at the moment. Instead, we live and breathe in a society that faces racism, sexism, financial debts, inflation, any division you name it. Well this past week, we have witnessed what this country stands for and should be the country we are proud to call home, come together and stand united together.

In the sleeping hours of August 24th into the 25th, the biggest catastrophic event in the last 12 years happened in our own backyard, unfortunately literally for some. Hurricane Harvey made landfall along the Corpus Christi area of Texas, along with a widespread area along the Texas coast and as inland as Houston. Hurricane Harvey caused much destruction with 140mph winds ripping roofs off of homes and business, and rainfall of 50+ inches caused flooding into the area that wiped everything away from the community and uprooted families to leave and lose everything left behind. It was through this disaster, that America came together united as one, to help those that were affected by this personally.

Once everyone woke up the next morning to many notifications of the devastation left behind from Hurricane Harvey, when those not affected from around the country logged into their social media accounts, you came across each platform asking for donations to help rebuild and help families make it through such a difficult time. Also, many celebrities and athletes came out promptly donating millions from their personal pockets or from their charities or foundations they started and are actively involved with year round. Many of the television networks reached their viewers through their showings by asking for donations by texting in when watching their network. When you go through the checkout at Kroger, the cashier would ask if you would like to donate by rounding up your total to your next dollar amount to help the Harvey victims. AirBnB is extending their business out to families that lost their home, by offering a free place to stay while they struggle trying to come back to a place they used to call home. There are many other ways to financially donate, directly through the red cross or with other businesses, by offering dry foods to ship to victims, or taking the time to go help rebuild these communities with your own hands.

America still has many issues that need to be addressed and fixed before being considered the greatest country again, but for a week, we can all come together to put differences aside no matter what they are, to stand united and act as one force to help those in need. So as you sit on your computer reading this post, or just in the comfort of your home, I urge you to please take time away to find a way to donate, whether it's financially, with food, or with labor, please help out our fellow Americans by coming together and working together to rebuild our homeland. We are UNITED as one.
